SALISBURY – Livingstone College jumped out to a quick 7-2 lead in Thursday evening's game in New Trent Gym. Bowie State University went on to defeat Livingstone College in overtime, 75-73.
The Blue Bears drop to (4-6, 0-1) in the season, while Bowie State University improves to (3-9, 1-0).
Livingstone was led by Detionne Leach recording a double-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds. De'Marr McCrae fell just short of a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.
Bowie State University was paced by Mark Bradshaw with 23 points. Jacory Wilkes followed with 15 points. Warren Mouganda finished with 10 points.
The Blue Bears took a nine-point lead at the 11-minute mark. A layup by Arion Broadnax put the Blue Bears up by 10 with 2:31 left in the half, 35-25. Mark Bradshaw hit a three-points with :29 left to cut the Blue Bear to one, 37-36. Omarion Broadnax hit a last-minute layup to extend the Blue Bears' lead by three at halftime, 39-36.
The Blue Bears and the Bulldogs traded leads the entire second half, resulting in overtime, 66-66.
With five minutes set for overtime, fell behind right out of the gate. The Bulldogs took the lead to start off and the Blue Bears never regained a lead.
Livingstone would end the game shooting 39.3% (24-of-61). Bowie State would make 29-of-63 overall for 46.0 percent. The Bulldogs shot 60.0% from the free-throw line (12 out of 20). The Blue Bears went 70.6% from the free-throw line 24-of-34.
Livingstone outrebounded Bowie, 43-35.
The Blue Bears will host Lincoln University on Community Day, on December 17. The first tip is set for 4:00 p.m.
