SALISBURY – Livingstone College jumped out to a quick 15-8 lead in Saturday afternoon's game in New Trent Gym. Livingstone College captured its first conference win against Lincoln University, 80-69.
The Blue Bears improve to (5-6, 1-1) in the season, while Lincoln University improves to (5-8, 0-2).
Livingstone was led by Pharoah Lassiter with 16 points. De'Marr McCrae finished with 14 points. Jemez Herd Jr. missed a double-double by two rebounds with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Jayden Street ended the evening with 10 points.
Lincoln University was paced by Aidan Anderson with 12 points. Peter Sorber and Charles Neverdon followed with 11 points. Manny Toha finished with 10 points.
The Blue Bears took an 11-point lead at the nine-minute mark. Pharoah Lassiter hit a three to give the Blue Bears an 18-point lead with 2:26 left in the first half, 42-24. Teon Tiller turned it over and Manny Toha completed a layup on a fastbreak but the Lions trailed the Blue Bears by 13 going into halftime, 45-32.
The Lions cut the Blue Bears' double-digit lead at the seven-minute mark with a good free throw by Charles Neverdon, 64-55. Livingstone dominated the remainder of the second half. The Lions cut the Blue Bears' lead under 10 with a layup by Peter Sorber, 77-69. Omarion Broadnax dunked the ball with 1:01 left to give the Blue Bears a 10-point lead, 79-69.
Livingstone would end the game shooting 56.6% (30-of-53). Lincoln would make 27-of-64 overall for 42.2 percent. The Lions shot 62.5% from the free-throw line (10 out of 16). The Blue Bears went 63.6% from the free-throw line 14-of-22.
Lincoln outrebounded Livingstone, 32-31.
The Blue Bears will host Virginia Union University, Monday, December 19. The first tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
