Livingstone College Volleyball Closes Out the 2022 Season

SALISBURY – The Livingstone College Volleyball team (2-19, 0-16 CIAA) wrapped up their season against Claflin University (12-9, 6-9 CIAA) Monday, Oct. 31 at Tullis Gym. 

The Blue Bears had a tough start to the season, with an 0-17 record. Not all was lost as on Saturday, October 22 the Blue Bears swept Paine College, capturing their first win of the season. 

Senior setter, Dekiya Wilson-Thomas recorded her 1000th assist and more against Paine College. 

Despite the number of losses the Blue Bears had a couple of 2-3 decisions against Winston-Salem State and St. Augustine's University. 

At the end of the regular season, Livingstone College volleyball ranks No. eight in the CIAA with 157 serve aces and No. 11 with 690 digs.

"This was a building year for the Livingstone College women's volleyball team," said head coach Steve Wallace. "We learned a lot and the blue bears got better, which is all a first-year head coach can ask for."

Overall in the 2022 season, Taylor Grant led the Blue Bears with 109 kills and in blocks with 24. Dekiya Wilson-Thomas led the Blue Bears with 169 assists. Ja'nya Lunnermon led in digs with 131.

Outside hitter Tiffany Chandler led the Blue Bears and ranked No. 10 in the CIAA with 30 service aces.  

"I set some lofty goals which we didn't get to this year, but I know we built a base to be much more successful next season," coach Wallace said. "The Blue Bears will continue to be a competitive team and have much to prove, with returning players Taylor Grant, Doris Ajagbe, and Arliya Bennerman."
