Men's Basketball Finishes 1-1 at The HBCU All-Star Challenge

ATLANTA, Georgia – Albany State University jumped out to a 14-6 lead in Saturday afternoon's game at Forbes Arena but Livingstone College overcame that disadvantage, 63-59. 

The Blue Bears improved to 1-3 in the season, while Albany State drops to 0-4.

Livingstone was led by Detionne Leach recording a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Followed by Pharoah Lassiter finishing with 12 points. De'Marr McCrae followed with 10 points. 

Albany State's Parker Malik paced his team with 12 points. Dickson Maurice recorded a double-double with 12 points and 15 rebounds.  

Malik Parker hit a three to give the Rams a 14-6 advantage at the 14-minute mark. The Blue Bears struggled to close the gap. The Rams extended their lead with 11:16 left in the first half, 19-10. 

Arion Broadnax completed an old fashion three to put the Blue Bears within four with 5:08 left in the half. 

Levar Allen cut the Rams' lead by two with a layup at the two-minute mark. The Rams scored the last two right before the half to put them up by five at halftime, 32-27.

The Blue Bears took their first lead of the game at the nine-minute mark when Levar Allen completed a layup, 48-47. The Rams quickly regained the lead with a layup and a foul by Detionne Leach to send Maxwell Harris to the line, 50-48.

Pharoah Lassiter completed an and-one, allowing the Blue Bears to take the lead with 8:02 left in regulations, 50-52.

Detionne Leach hit a jumper to extend the Blue Bears' lead by six at the six-minute mark, 56-50.

The Rams crawled back to get within one with 5:05 left, 56-55. The Blue Bears held on to the lead for the remainder of the game to win their first game of the season. 

Livingstone would end the game shooting 40.3% (25-of-62). Albany State would make 24-of-80 overall for 30.0 percent. The Rams shot 80.0% from the free-throw line (8-out of -10). The Blue Bears went 56.5% from the free-throw line 13-of-23.

Albany State outrebounded Livingstone, 48-40.

The Blue Bears will host Coker University in the home opener Tuesday, November 22. The first tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
