Men's Basketball Drops to Morehouse College in the First Game at the HBCU Tip-Off Challenge

ATLANTA, Georgia – Livingstone College fought back to grab an 11-9 lead over Morehouse College at the 14-minute mark in Saturday afternoon's game at Forbes Arena but the Tigers overcame that disadvantage, 70-67.

The Blue Bears drop to 0-3 at the HBCU All-Star Challenge, while Morehouse College improves to 2-1.

Livingstone was led in scoring by Paul Tako with 19 points. Arion Broadnax finished with 14 points. De'Marr McCrae followed with 13 points. Detionne Leach led in rebounds with 11.

Morehouse College Andrew Stewart paced his team with 21 points and eight rebounds. Elijah Stewart had 18 points and Ibn Williams had 11, and Nate Lacewell finished with 10.

Andrew Stewart started the game off by giving Morehouse College the first seven points of the game.

Detionne Leach tied it up at 7-7 with a layup. De'Marr McRae gave the Blue Bears the lead with three. Ibn Williams tied it up making one out of two free throws. 

The Blue Bears took back the lead with 3:11 left in the half with two good free throws by Paul Tako, 24-25.

Two more from the free throw line extended the Blue Bear lead by five, 30-25. The Tigers tied it up with :47 left in the half. Teon Tiller gave the Blue Bears the lead right before the half with two good free throws, 32-30.

The Blue Bears came out of the half and extended their lead, 34-30. Elijah Stewart gave Morehouse back the lead with three, 35-34. Arion Broadnax answered with three of his own to give the Blue Bears back the lead, 38-34.

The Blue Bears extended their lead by seven at the 14-minute mark. 43-36. Morehouse took the lead back with two good free throws by Ibn Williams, 48-47. The Blue Bears Paul Tako drew a foul from Christian Lamar and completed two at the line, 50-47. 

With 4:15 to go the Blue Bears extended their lead by nine with a jumper by Tako, 62-55.

The Tigers tied it up with :49 to go, 67-67. 

Elijah Stewart hit a three at with six seconds to go to give Morehouse the lead and the win. 

Livingstone would end the game shooting 37.9% (22-of-58). Morehouse would make 24-of-64 overall for 37.5 percent. The Tigers shot 54.2% from the free-throw line (13-out of -24). The Blue Bears went 63.3% from the free-throw line 19-of-30.

Livingstone outrebounded Morehouse, 38-32.

The Blue Bears will host Coker University in the home opener Tuesday, November 22. The first tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
