SALISBURY — Siles Cruse connected with Lasirton Bryant for the game-winning touchdown to end the 18-game-22-year losing streak against Winston-Salem State University.
The Blue Bears defeated the Rams Saturday afternoon at Alumni Memorial Stadium, 20-17.
The Blue Bears improve to 2-4 and will host Fayetteville State University for homecoming Saturday, October 15 for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff on the CIAA Sports Network.
Senior Lazarus Anderson got things started for the Blue Bears, after connecting with Devontay Deloatch for a three-yard touchdown.
The Blue Bear defense worked tirelessly in Saturday's game. Causing four straight turnovers on the first four possessions. Two fumbles and two interceptions.
Late in the second quarter, Cruse hit a wide-open Matthew Henry for a 66-yard touchdown to go up against the Rams, 14-0.
The Rams took a 17-14 lead in the fourth quarter when quarterback Jehmier Slade connected with running back Asa Barnes for a 36-yard touchdown.
Will Tims led the Blue Bear defense with 11 tackles. Followed by Terrance McPherson Jr, Zavion Llyod, and Christian Bostic with six tackles in Saturday afternoon's game.
Silas Cruse accounted for 180 yards of total offense (180 passing, 0 rushing).
Matthew Henry led the Blue Bears in receiving with four catches for 103 yards. Andre Harris led in rushing with 30 yards.
