RALEIGH, North Carolina – Livingstone Volleyball (0-11,0-8) a 3-0 decision (24-26, 16-25, 16-25) to Virginia Union University (10-7, 6-3) Saturday afternoon at C.C Spaulding Gym.
Livingstone hit .093. The Blue Bears recorded 24 kills and 17 assists, seven aces, three blocks, and registered 21 digs.
Virginia Union hit .219.
The Panthers hit 30 kills in the match with 23 assists, 19 aces, and eight blocks.
Arliya Bennerman led the Blue Bears with seven kills. While Dekiya Wilson-Thomas finished with six digs and five assists.
Set 1
- The Blue Bears had a couple of 3-0 runs to go up 6-2 early against the Panthers.
- Several errors by the Panthers resulted in the Blue Bears eight-point lead later in the set, 13-5.
- The Panthers came back to tie it up 15-15 with a kill by Amilex Lopez-Ayala.
- A 5-0 by the Blue Bears would allow them to regain the lead 15-12.
- The Blue Bears regained the lead with a quick kill by Tiffany Chandler and an error by the Panthers, 17-15.
- The Panther then went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the set 19-17.
- The Blue Bears answered with a 5-0 run to take back the lead, 22-19.
- The Panthers went on another 3-0 run to tie it back up, 22-22.
- A service error by the Panthers would give the Blue Bears back the lead, 23-22.
- Ultimately, a couple of 2-0 runs would allow the Panthers to take set one.
Set 2
- Dekiya Wilson-Thomas started set two with three aces in a row to give the Blue Bears an early lead.
- A 5-0 run by the Panthers would give them a one-point lead, 6-5.
- A service error by the Panthers would quickly tie things back up at 6-6.
- Later in the set, the Panthers pulled away with a 4-0 run to go up by seven, 23-15.
- A Kill and a service ace by the Panthers closed out set two, 23-16.
Set 3
- The Blue Bears took an early lead over the Panther with a 6-0 run.
- The Panthers quickly found themselves with the lead with a 5-0 run, 8-7.
- The Blue Bear got down by eight with a couple of 4-0 runs by the Panthers.
- The Blue Bears tried fighting back with a 3-0 run of their own, 19-14.
- Ultimately, the Panthers closed out the set with a 5-0 run and one last kill by Lopez-Ayala.
