Livingstone Drops Shaw Men's Basketball, 78-67

SALISBURY - Livingstone College guard Roger Ray scored a game-high 23 points as the Blue Bears earned a 78-67 win over Shaw University in CIAA Southern Division play at New Trent Gym on Saturday afternoon.

Neither team started particularly well, as the teams were tied early at 6-6 with 17:52 to play.  Shaw then built the 17-13 lead following Derrick Randolph three pointer at the 11:54 mark. LC would slice into the Bear lead closing to 17-16 after a Ray three pointer.

After Shaw jumped ahead again by four, Jalen Fykes again brought LC to within two points at 20-18 and following a Shaw miss, Lydell Elmore's dunk tied it with 7:49 at 20-20. LC would limit Shaw to just three more points in the half and took the 30-29 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Livingstone jumped on the Bears, gaining a 10-point lead (68-57) at 4:15 after a Ray's jumper. LC could not trim the Bear lead to less than seven points until the 2:42 mark.

LC's Elmore chipped in 15 points and 11 rebounds while Kenny Grant also had 10 points and finished with 12 rebounds.

The loss drops SU to 11-12 overall, 6-8 in league play in the Southern Division while LC improves to 15-7, 8-4 and 6-1 in the Southern Division.
