LC Basketball Comes Up Big Against Claflin Winning, 77-62

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — It was a game of snapped streaks, as Livingstone snapped a two game losing streak and snapped Claflin's five game win streak. Livingstone comes up big in winning 77-62, over the Panthers in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Southern Division matchup on Monday night at the Tullis Arena.

The Panthers held the lead until Cameryn Carpenter connected on a three-pointer for Livingstone giving the Blue Bears a 13-12 lead. Livingstone pushed its lead to 20-14 at the 12:22 mark before the Claflin answered with six straight points, tying the contest at 20-20.

Livingstone led at halftime, 39-30, but Claflin immediately pulled to within six points at 41-35, early in the second half.

Livingstone slowly pulled away from the Panthers, until O'Koye Parker's 3-pointer gave the Blue Bears their biggest lead of the game at 75-59 under a minute remaining.

The Blue Bears were led by Roger Ray with a game-high 23 points.

Ray, made 7-of-9 shots from the floor, including 5-of-6 from the 3-point arc. He also sank four of his five free throws, dished out five assists and collected three rebounds.

Three other Blue Bears were in double figures. Kenny Grant scored 12 points, followed by Lydell Elmore with 11 and Malik Smith with 10. Elmore also led the team with seven rebounds, while, Navar Elmore, had nine points and five boards.

For the game, Livingstone outrebounded Claflin by a 35-28 margin and shot 50.9 percent (27-of-53) from the floor compared to 37.0 percent (20-of-54) for the Panthers.

Both teams were 16-for-18 from the line.

Brandon Davis led Claflin with 15 points, making 7-of-10 shots. Cornellius Reynolds added 13 points and Austin Lawton had 12 points for the Panthers.

The Blue Bears improved to 16-9 overall, 9-7 in the CIAA and 7-3 in the conference's Southern Division.  Claflin, which came into contest on a five-game winning streak, shot just 37 percent (20-of-54) for the game and fell to 12-13 overall. The Panthers are now 9-9 in the league and 7-5 in the division.

The Blue Bears return to action on Wednesday at New Trent Gym, hosting St. Augustine's at 7:30 p.m.
