Livingstone's men's and women's basketball teams both suffered losses Monday night as the Blue Bears fell to Bowie State
WOMEN: Bowie State 62, Livingstone 50
Darra Walker scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Lady Blue Bears. She was joined by
Daisa Harris (12 pts) and
Daijah Turner (11 pts) as double-figure scorers.
Bowie State is one of three CIAA teams regionally ranked and although it was a designated non-conference game, LC struggled; falling behind early shooting just 30% from the field and 40% from the free throw line.
Despite a slight deficit in points-in-the-paint, Bowie State dominated the boards, 43-28, to cruise to its tenth win of the season.
With the loss, LC falls to 3-6 while BSU improves to 10-0.
MEN: Bowie State 80, Livingstone 73
In their second meeting of the season, Bowie State was able to avenge a November 25 loss to the Blue Bears in Salisbury taking an 80-73 win on its home court.
LC fell behind early and went into the locker room at halftime down 42-29.
The team performed much better in the second half shooting 50% from the field (13 for 26) but it wasn't enough to overcome the halftime deficit.
Lydell Elmore ( 14 pts),
Roger Ray (11 pts) and
Cameron Carpenter (10 pts) led the Blue Bear scoring as Livingstone suffered its second straight loss falling to 7-4 on the season. BSU improved to 7-6 overall.
The men and women return to New Trent Gymnasium on Thursday, December 19 to host Shaw University.Â
The women are set to tipoff at 5:30 p.m, with the men's game to follow at 7:30 p.m.
