Dunk Fest for Elmore as LC defeats JCSU, 85-75

SALISBURY - Livingstone College steadily built a lead and withstood a late charge to down Johnson C. Smith University 85-75, in men's basketball at New Trent Gym on Saturday.

After leading 40-36 at halftime, JCSU went on a 7-2 run to start the second half to trim the deficit to 47-42 following a Cayse Minor three-pointer at the 17:08 mark.

Livingstone then regrouped, pushing the lead back to 55-51 following a Lydell Elmore dunk with 12:15 to play.

After JCSU's knocked down a layup to make it 55-53, that was as close as the Golden Bulls would get, Livingstone then pushed the lead to 60-53.

Roger Ray led four Livingstone players in double-digits, finishing with 21 points. Elmore added 17 for the Blue Bears while Martel Handley finished with 12. Damante' McNeill also added 11.  Both Ray and Elmore had double-doubles, with Elmore hauling in 10 rebounds and Ray dishing out 13 assists.

JCSU's Roddric Ross finished with a game-high 28 points while Cayse Monir added 16.

The loss drops JCSU to 3-11 overall, 1-7 in CIAA play and 0-2 in Southern Division play while Livingstone improves to 12-6, 5-4 in the CIAA and 3-0 in the division.

LC will travel to Raleigh, taking on Shaw at Spaulding Gym on Monday, Jan. 28.
