SALISBURY – Visiting Virginia State University shot 41.3% from the field and got 16 points from Cyonte Melvin to down Livingstone, 82-71 in CIAA men's basketball play at New Trent Gym on Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans (12-3, 4-0 CIAA) raced out to an early 16-8 lead after a Trojan basket and never looked back the rest of the way. The Trojans would then take a 15-point lead at 32-17 at the 5:22 mark.

LC would then trim the Trojan cushion to 26-15 after an Anthony Tate basket, but VSU embarked on a 45-27 lead at the break.
