Ray's 30 points leads Blue Bears over Vikings, 74-69

SALISBURY — The Blue Bears returned to the friendly confines of New Trent Gymnasium to defeat the visiting Elizabeth City State Vikings, 74-69, on Thursday night.

Roger Ray led a career scoring night as he scored 30 points for the Blue Bears. Ray was 9 of 14 from the field and went 4 of 6 from behind the arch. He was almost perfect from the charity stripe as he went 8-10 from the line.

ECSU cut the deficit to five points at 72-67 with 11 seconds left, when Cameryn Carpenter, went to the line for two free throws.
Lydell Elmore followed with 12 points and led Livingstone with six rebounds. Carpenter added 10 points. Navar Elmore and Damante McNeill each chipped in with six points.

Livingstone shot just 43 percent 23-of-54 as a team, 7-of-19 3-point attempts. The Blue Bears went 21 of 25 at the foul line, 84 percent.

Jo Allen led the Vikings with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Justin Faison followed with 12 points. Two players, John Maynor and Omar Roberts, each contributed eight points.

The victory snapped a three-game losing streak for coach Blue Bears, who are now 7-5 overall and 1-3 in the conference. For the Vikings they are 8-8 overall, and 4-1 in conference play 

Livingstone returns to action at home on Saturday, hosting Virginia State at 4 p.m.
