LC Uses Late Run to Outlast Morris, 85-81

SALISBURY– Livingstone College had four players score in double figures and used a late run to outlast visiting Morris College in a men's basketball nonconference game on Wednesday night at New Trent Gym.

The Blue Bears (2-1) used a pivotal 5-0 run with less than 15 minutes to play to break a 53-53 tie.  Over the scoring span, LC got a huge dunk from Lydell Elmore and an inside layup from Kenny Grant to bolt to a 58-53 lead with 13:23 left to play.

Morris (2-2) cut the lead to 71-68 after two W. Littles free throws with 6:40 on the clock.  Following a Roger Ray layup, which was the last field goal for the Blue Bears in the final 4:40 span tied the game at 75-75. The Blue Bears connected on 10 free throws to provide the 85-81 final.

As a team, LC shot 43.8% from the field (28-of-65) and 25% (3-of-12) from distance.  The Blue Bears continued to be efficient from the free throw line, connecting for 26-of-36 attempts for 72.2%

Elmore led the way with 21 points while Kenny Grant had 13.  Ray and Malik Smith each finished with 12 points with Ray dishing out a team-high nine assists.

Morris was paced by D. Holliday's 21 points.  A. Moss and two other to score in double-figures, as he netted 12 in the loss.

LC will return to the hardwood to compete in the JCSU Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 16-17.  Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
