Falcons Spoil Blue Bears Homecoming

SALISBURY - The Livingstone College Blue Bears put up 352 yards of total offense but was unable to cash in on numerous opportunities falling 26-15 on a hot and humid Homecoming Day, in Alumni Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

The home standing Blue Bears wasted no time, getting on the board following a nine-play 52-yard drive, when Antoine Akundu kicked a 22 yard field goal to put LC up 3-0.  In the second quarter, Miles Hayes pass was intercepted by Sidney Lawson who ran it back for the 30 yards in the end zone for a touchdown, putting SAU on the board, 7-3.

Xaiver Longerbeam connected with Anthony Faraimo, this time on a 30-yard jaunt at the 3:04 mark of the second quarter that capped a five-play, 80-yard drive, pushing the LC lead to 9-7, going into halftime.

In the third quarter, the Falcons next possession, John Darby scored his touchdown of the afternoon on a 32-yard run, making it 14-9. SAU went up 17-9 on a 39 yard field goal.

LC then hit pay dirt with 13:51 left when Marcus Baisy scattered in for the 16 yard touchdown run, making the score 17-15, but the point after touchdown failed to tie the game at 17 all.

Deep in their own territory, the Blue Bears Hayes hurried a throw that was deflected at the line of scrimmage by defensive end Keywan Morgan, and fell to LC right tackle Garrett Hines, who stretched for a legal reception but was tackled in the end zone for a safety, pushing the Falcons' lead to 19-15 with 2:07 left in the game.

The Blue Bears (2-3 overall) attempted an onside kick, but Shymere Scott caught the ball on a high bounce and ran untouched 30 yards for the game-clinching touchdown with 2:03 remaining on the clock. Smith kicked the extra point for the final score of 26-15.

Hayes finished 6-for-23 with two interceptions — including a pick-six

Defensively, LC got a career-high 10 tackles from Armond Cox.
