Livingstone Falls to Shaw, 37-28 on Senior Day

SALISBURY - Senior Day didn't end well as the Blue Bears wanted, as they fall to the Bears of Shaw University 37-28, in a CIAA Southern Division football action on Saturday afternoon in Alumni Memorial Stadium.

Shaw got  on the board first when the Blue Bears quarterback Miles Hayes was sacked for a safety. Shaw then scored again as running back Dorrell McClain ran for a 35 yard touchdown to put the Bears ahead 9-0 at the 10:09 mark.

Livingstone's Hayes touchdown pass to Brandon Duncan for the 24 yards and then Blue Bears scored on a safety right before halftime, the Blue Bears tied up at 9 all before going into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Hayes found DeAndre Vickers for the touchdown, but the PAT from Antione Akunda failed, which gave the Blue Bears the 16-9 lead. However, Shaw scored from four yards out to tie the score at 16 all with 8:23 remaining in the third quarter.

Shaw added another six points on the score board giving them the 30-22 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Livingstone's Xaiver Longerbeam came in after Hayes was injured and connected with Anthony Faraimo scored on a 13 yard passing TD with 10:50 left in the game.  A few plays later, Shaw's McClain rushed for three yards in the endzone and the PAT was good as Shaw led 37-28 with less than three minutes left to play, which sealed the game for the Bears.

The win improves Shaw to 2-4 overall and 1-2 in CIAA action while the Blue Bears drops to 2-4 on the year and 1-3 against conference opponents.

LC closes its season with three road games, beginning next Saturday afternoon at Winston-Salem State.
