Volleyball falls at Shaw

RALEIGH – It was a tough night for Livingstone volleyball on Thursday night, falling 3-0 to the Bears of Shaw University in a CIAA Southern Division opener for both teams.

Shaw jumped out to leads of 4-0 and 8-4 in the first set before forcing a Lady Blue Bears to call a timeout at 14-9. Shaw would finish the set in for the 25-13 win.

The second set saw the Lady Bears once again jump out to big leads of 4-1 and 12-4 but Livingstone responded with a 5-0 run to trim Shaw's lead to 12-9. The Lady Blue Bears would then tie the set at 15-15 before taking leads of 17-16 and 19-17 forcing a Lady Bears timeout.

Shaw recovered after a timeout to retake the lead at 21-20 before closing out the set for the 25-22 victory.

The third and final set was all the Lady Bears as they led early 10-3. Shaw would then race out to a 21-11 lead before sealing the deal for the 25-13 win and 3-0 match victory.

Ajia Long led Livingstone with five kills on the night. Steevee Cotton had 12 assists while the Lady Blue Bears were led defensively by Rukiya Garland with 12 digs.

The loss drops LC to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in CIAA play and 0-1 in Southern Division play.

Livingstone returns home to host the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State Monday, September 26^th. First serve is slated for 6 p.m. in New Trent Gymnasium.
