Lions Edge Out Blue Bears

LINCOLN, Pa. — Two different 3-point field goals missed the mark in the final seconds and Lincoln held on to defeat Livingstone, 70-68, in CIAA men's basketball action Tuesday night.

Livingstone, which also lost on Sunday against Bowie State on the road trip, falls to 2-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference. The Lions improve to 2-7 and 1-0.

Trailing 70-65, the Blue Bears' Jimmy Wilson nailed a 3-pointer with 16 seconds left, cutting the deficit to two points. After Lincoln's Blair Davis missed a free throw, Livingstone's David Duncan grabbed the rebound and coach James Stinson called a timeout.

However, the Blue Bears' Desmond Stanback missed from the 3-point line and after Wilson grabbed the rebound, Ramel Belfield missed another 3-pointer.

Livingstone led at halftime, 39-36, but fell behind by as much as 13 points during the second half (63-50, at the 6:27-mark). From that point on, however, the Blue Bears outscored the Lions, 18-7, but came up two points short.

Stanback led the Blue Bears with 14 points, followed by 13 from Roger Ray, 11 from Darryl Bond and 10 by Wilson.

Livingstone returns to on Saturday and Sunday at Clark-Atlanta's Epps Memorial Scholarship Challenge.
