ALBANY, Ga – The Blue Bears men's basketball team held off a furious comeback attempt by Albany State to take a 66-57 win over the Rams on Tuesday night, in the ASU HPER Gymnasium.
The Blue Bears had three players in double figures.
Ty Newman returned in rare form and led the team with 16 points.
Nasir Austin scored 14 and
Eric Dubose chipped in with 10.
Dubose was perfect on the night 6-for-6 at the free-throw line and grabbed five rebounds.
Albany State got off quickly as they built a 24-16 lead just 7 minutes into the game. The Blue Bears slowly chipped away the lead to tie the game at 27 apiece on Newman's jumper.
LC led at the half 34-29.
The second half was a different game as the Rams put on an offensive show of their own, cutting the Blue Bears lead to 48-50 with eight minutes left in the game.
But that was as close as Albany State would get.
The Blue Bears visits Fort Valley State on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
