Powell Leads Group of Blue Bears Named to All-CIAA Team

Powell is the 2015 CIAA Offensive Player of the Year

Charlotte, N.C. - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in conjunction with its Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association has released the 2015 All-CIAA First, Second and Honorable Mention teams.

Drew Powell highlight the teams as the offensive player of the year.

Livingstone's Drew Powell, a senior quarterback from Upper Marlboro, Maryland, was named the Offensive Player of the Year. He finished the 2015 season with 1,786 overall passing yards with 14 touchdowns. With a completion percentage of 58.9 percent, Drew completed 149 of 253 passes. On the ground, Powell rushed 139 times for 561 yards and eight touchdowns. He finished with a total of 48 points. Drew Powell's season-best was the 42-35 overtime victory over Fayetteville State. Powell was 28-of-35 in passing attempts (80.0%) for 364 yards.

The Blue Bears also had one named to the All-CIAA Defense.  Punter Leonardo Manzo was the conference's leading punter.  It was the second consecutive season the senior has been named to the first team.  Manzo, punted 27 times for 1,088 yards, while averaging 40 yards per boot. His longest of the season was 55 yards.
 
Livingstone had two players listed on the second team all-conference, offensive lineman Ekanem Ekanem and Jalen Hendricks.  Ekanem, who became the leader of the Blue Bear offensive line playing different positions over the course of the season due to several injuries along LC's offensive front. 

Hendricks, was the team leader in receiving. In eight games, he amassed 730 yards on 58 catches, eight of those catches were for touchdowns. His longest reception was for 50 yards. Hendricks was the 2014 CIAA Offensive Player of the Year

DeMarcus Nolan was named to the CIAA Honorable Mention Team. The junior linebacker was recently selected CIAA Linebacker of the week for his performance against Fayetteville State.  Nolan led the Blue Bear defense with 60 tackles, 39 of those where solo.  He had one interception and returned it for a 55 yard touchdown, along with one sack.

Livingstone College defensive lineman Armond Cox was named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. 

Cox played in eight games and amassed 46 tackles from the defensive line position, nineteen of those were solo stops. Cox also recovered two fumbles and returned one for a 98 yard touchdown to go along with two pass breakup.

The Players of the Year and the First Team All-CIAA honorees will receive their awards during a pre-game ceremony prior to the start of the 2015 CIAA Football Championship game. The Championship game will be held at the Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham, North Carolina. Kickoff is 2:00 p.m. The game will be aired live on the ASPiRE Network.
