CIAA Football Players of the Week

For the week ending September 27, 2014

  Offensive Lineman
Michael SABB, Winston-Salem
(Sr, OL - Raleigh, NC, #72)

Sabb, a preseason All-American and All-CIAA pick, had a great night for the #15 WSSU Rams, as he helped the Rams offense to a season high 454 yards in their 35-7 win over Elizabeth City State.
 Receiver
Nick Jones, Shaw
(Sr, WR - Durham, NC, #80)

Jones broke the Shaw school record for single game receiving yards (212 yds) in the game against The Lincoln University.
 Quarterback
Drew Powell, Livingstone
(Jr, QB - Upper Marlboro, MD, #2)

Against Bowie State, Powell drew threw for 4 touchdowns and had 329 passing yards. In addition he had 94 rushing yards in the team's 36-33 victory over Bowie State.

Trey Johnson, Virginia St.
(Sr, RB - Richmond, Va., #19)

Johnson ran for a career high 125 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry in the Trojan's win over Fayetteville State

Anthony McDaniel, Bowie St.
(Jr, DL - Fort Washington, MD, #10)

McDaniel racked up a game-high 12 tackles in Saturday's 36-33 loss at Livingstone. He also had one sack, two TFL's, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.

Carlton Butts, St. Augustine's
(Sr, LB - Thomasville, GA, #11)

Butts led all players with 12 tackles including two tackles for loss, one sack and a forced fumble off the sack which the Falcons recovered in a 33-31 win over Chowan.

Brion Robinson, The Lincoln University
(Jr, DB - Silver Spring, MD, #1)

Robinson returned a 35-yard interception for a touchdown against the Shaw Bears while finishing the game with four tackles.

Claytin Lewis, St. Augustine's
(Fr, WR - Raleigh, NC, #9)

Lewis caught 6 passes for a season-high 216 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winning 66-yard touchdown pass with 2:36 left to give Saint Augustine's University a 33-31 win over Chowan in its CIAA opener. Lewis also caught a 65-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. He was seven yards shy of breaking the school record for receiving yards in a game.

Leonardo Manzo, Livingstone
(Jr, K - Gainesville, GA- , #19)

Manzo kicked a crucial 25 yard field goal with just 3 seconds left on the clock to give the Blue Bears a 36-33 victory over Bowie Statet. He also contributed three extra points.
