The Livingstone College women's basketball team who currently sits at 6-0 continues Honorary Coach Program implemented under the leadership of first year head coach, Anita Howard. The program is intended to help integrate the athletic and academic communities at Livingstone. In appreciation of their hard work and diligence in supportiung the academic achievement of student-athletes, faculty members are invited to get an intimate view of what it means to be an athlete at Livingstone.
The first Honorary Coach was Dr. Kainda Katembo who serves as a faculty member at Livingstone College.
Dr. Fredrick Ford, who is a professor in the Liberal Arts Department at Livingstone College, joined Coach Howard and the Lady Blue Bears last night as they trampled over the Lady Indians of Catawba college 87-56.
Coach Howard will have an Honorary Coach at every home game for the 2014-15 season while under her leadership. She notes that these particular individuals who are chosen need to know nothing about the sport of basketball. Their "duties" are merely to be with the team in the locker room for Coach Howard's pre-game speech, sit with the team on the Livingstone bench, listen in on the huddles and game strategy, and most importanly, cheer and have a good time!
For future Honorary Coaches acknowledgments, please visit the website at www.bluebearathletics.com after every home contest.
