- Livingstone College women's basketball came up short against Virginia Union, falling 75–49. Despite a competitive first half, the Lady Blue Bears couldn't overcome a dominant third quarter by the Panthers.
The game started with promise for Livingstone, who led briefly in the first quarter and trailed by just one point after ten minutes (14–13).
Ny'Asia Green and
Boston Bates chipped in early buckets, helping the Blue Bears stay within striking distance. At halftime, Virginia Union held a modest 30–27 lead, and Livingstone's defense had kept the Panthers' shooters in check.
The turning point came in the third quarter. Virginia Union erupted for 27 points, fueled by sharp perimeter shooting and aggressive drives to the basket. Serenity Johnson led the surge off the bench, scoring 15 points and knocking down two three-pointers. Livingstone struggled to respond, shooting just 25% in the period and going 0-for-9 from beyond the arc.
By the fourth quarter, the Panthers extended their lead to as many as 26 points. Livingstone's offense never found its rhythm, finishing the game at 30.5% from the field and 13% from three-point range.
Ny'Asia Green and
Boston Bates paced the Blue Bears with six points each, while
Nielle Reaves and
Destiny Drakeford added nine apiece off the bench.
Virginia Union dominated the glass, outrebounding Livingstone 49–40 and converting second-chance opportunities into 16 points. The Panthers also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 23 points off Livingstone's 23 miscues.
The Lady Blue Bears will look to bounce back on Monday, Dec. 15, when they travel to Bowie, MD., to face Bowie State at 5:30 p.m.
