Tony Holliday

Tony Holliday was hired as Livingstone’s Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach in September 2010 and brings with him a wealth of basketball coaching experience including some inside the CIAA.

Holliday brings to the Blue Bear program more than 33 years of coaching experience. Most recently Holliday coached the Atlanta Celtics, guiding the under-15 boys team to a national championship in 2009. Prior to coaching the Celtics, Holliday was the assistant boys basketball coach at Paideia High School in Atlanta, GA.

From 2005-2007, Holliday was the assistant men’s basketball coach at Virginia State University where he was responsible for recruiting, offense coordination, strength and conditioning and film breakdown. Holliday has also coached on the collegiate level at the University of Colorado and at Mott Community College.

Holliday also has a wealth of successful high school coaching experience. From 2003-2005 Holliday coached the girls basketball team at Beecher High School in Flint, Michigan where he amassed an overall record of 43-8 in just over two seasons including two district championships and a regional championship. Prior to coaching the girl’s team, Holliday also coached the boys at Beecher for two seasons where he totaled a 39-14 overall record including two district championships. In the 2002-2003 season his team was the state runner-up and he was named the Regional Coach of the Year.
Holliday has had the opportunity to see a number of his players go on to have successful careers both on the collegiate and professional levels.

Holliday coached Tonya Edwards at Flint Northwestern High School who went on to Tennessee University and helped lead the Volunteers to their first national championship. Edwards was also named the MVP in her freshman year at the NCAA Tournament. Holliday also coached Mateen Cleeves at Flint Northern High School who went on to help Michigan State win a national championship in 2000 and has also played in the NBA for the Detroit Pistons and Sacramento Kings.

Holliday earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Management from Pacific Western University in 1997.
