Tony Holliday

Anthony "Tony" Holliday returns to Livingstone College as Associate Head Coach of the Men's Basketball program, bringing more than 50 years of coaching, player development, and leadership experience at the high school, and collegiate.

A Michigan basketball legend, Holliday built a championship résumé that includes multiple state titles, conference championships, and the development of numerous collegiate and professional athletes. He helped guide Flint Northwestern High School to Michigan Class A State Championships in 1983 and 1984 as an assistant coach, while also contributing to a boys' state championship in 1984. As a head coach, he led Flint Northern High School to the 1995 Michigan Class A State Championship and state semifinal appearances in 1993 and 1994. He later guided Beecher High School to the 2003 Michigan State Runner-Up finish and earned Regional Coach of the Year honors.

Holliday's collegiate coaching career includes stops at Mott Community College, the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, Virginia State University, Northwestern State University, and Livingstone College. While at Virginia State (2005-07), he helped lead the Trojans to the 2007 CIAA Southern Division Championship while contributing to the program earning the conference's highest team GPA.

During his first tenure at Livingstone from 2010-20, Holliday helped build one of the premier NCAA Division II HBCU basketball programs in the nation. The Blue Bears captured multiple CIAA Southern Division titles and back-to-back CIAA Tournament Championships in 2014 and 2015 while earning recognition for both postseason success and academic excellence. He later joined the staff at Northwestern State University, helping guide the program to a second-place finish in the conference.

In AAU basketball, Holliday helped lead the Atlanta Celtics U15 team to a Super 64 National Championship, further cementing his reputation as a developer of elite talent. Throughout his career, he has coached several standout players, including WNBA champion Tonya Edwards and NCAA champion and former NBA player Mateen Cleaves.

A three-time inductee into the Greater Flint African American Hall of Fame, Holliday's impact extends beyond the basketball court. He is the founder and Executive Director of the Greater Flint Youth Development Organization and serves on the National PAL Organization Board of Directors. He attended Liberty Baptist College, Mott Community College, and Pacific Western University, earning a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Sport Management.

Holliday is the father of three sons, grandfather of seven, and great-grandfather of one great-granddaughter. He honors the memory of his beloved wife, Sandra Holliday, who courageously battled breast cancer.
