Brian Petty enters his sixth season with the Livingstone Men's Basketball program, continuing to serve as the Developmental Team Head Coach/Director while assisting with the varsity program and supporting various initiatives within the athletic department.
Coach Petty views his time at Livingstone as a tremendous opportunity for professional growth, allowing him to learn under the leadership of Head Coach James Stinson while continuing to develop as a coach, mentor, and recruiter.
Since the inception of the Developmental Team program, Coach Petty has compiled an outstanding 28-1 record over three seasons. During that time, he has helped numerous student-athletes advance to the varsity level and continue their basketball careers at other collegiate programs. In addition to leading the developmental squad, Petty plays an integral role in the day-to-day operations of the varsity program and serves as a valuable presence on the bench during competition.
Prior to joining Livingstone, Coach Petty served as the Head Developmental Team Coach and Associate Head Coach for the varsity program at Brewton-Parker College in Mount Vernon, Georgia.
Known for his expertise in player development and recruiting, Coach Petty has built an extensive network throughout the United States and internationally. His ability to identify and develop talent has contributed significantly to the continued success of the Blue Bears both on and off the court.
Throughout his coaching career, Coach Petty has assisted more than 50 student-athletes in earning college basketball scholarships at various levels. He has also gained valuable experience working alongside and learning from some of the most respected coaches in the game. His coaching background includes AAU basketball, post-graduate programs, and participation in some of the nation's premier basketball camps. Additionally, he coached Team United States Games in Georgia, leading a 17U team composed of players he recruited from North Carolina.
A native of Forest City, North Carolina, Coach Petty attended East Rutherford High School before continuing his academic and athletic career at Prince Avenue Prep School in South Carolina. He went on to play collegiate basketball at Southern Wesleyan University in Central, South Carolina, where he helped lead the Warriors to consecutive NAIA National Tournament appearances in 2005 and 2006.
