ermaine Smith enters his first season as the Linebacker Coach and Special Teams Coordinator at Livingstone College.
In 2021, Coach Smith was the Defensive Coordinator at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, producing three all-conference defensive players in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. In 2020 he was the Co-Defensive Coordinator at Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC.
Prior to Livingstone College Coach Smith spent 3 years as the Co-Defensive Coordinator/Player Personnel Director for the Charlotte Thunder of the Arena Football League. The Thunder defense ranked 2nd in the league in overall defense and 1st in takeaways. Jermaine also coached the Defensive MVP of the league, Fred Williams, along with 5 other all-league players. Coach Smith has over 20 years of total coaching on all levels.
Coach Smith has served on the defensive staff in three collegiate All-Star games, as a DC on the High School level and a Head Coach on the Middle School level.
He also served as the Regional Director for AAU Football which produced three National Champions in a three-year span.
Coach Smith played at Northeast Oklahoma A&M. Where he earned JUCO All-American honors and ranked as the #1 Linebacker coming out his sophomore year.
He attended East Carolina University but transferred his senior year to Central State University winning a National Title in 1995. Coach Smith went on to play professionally from 1996 - 2002 in the AFL, CFL and NFL signing a free agent contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2000.
Coach Smith has a bachelor's degree from the University of Phoenix in Communications Marketing and Sales and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration in Homeland Security. Jermaine is from Eden, NC and now resides in Charlotte, NC where he has a nonprofit that serves at-risk youth. He is married to Cynthia Floyd-Smith and they have 6 children Darius, Aaron, Gaybreel, Tamia, Jordan, and Mason.
