SALISBURY, NC — The Blue Bears earned a statement victory Saturday, defeating Winston-Salem State University 21-13 for their second straight win.
The win was especially meaningful for the Blue Bears, who entered the contest looking for their first victory over Winston-Salem State since 2023. After three years of waiting, Livingstone once again came out on top, while also earning its second consecutive victory of the season. The win gives the Blue Bears added momentum as they continue through the 2026 campaign.
Winston-Salem State struck first, connecting on a 39-yard field goal to take an early 3-0 lead. Livingstone quickly responded, as Maliq Staten powered into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run to give the Blue Bears a 7-3 advantage.
The Rams answered in the second quarter with a 1-yard touchdown run and added another field goal before halftime, taking a 13-7 lead into the locker room.
Coming out of halftime, the Blue Bears found another gear. Jamol Horton scored on an 8-yard touchdown run to put Livingstone back in front, 14-13. The Blue Bears continued to build on that momentum when Brandon Edinburgh Jr. connected with RJ Lindsey on a 49-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 21-13 late in the third quarter.
From there, Livingstone's defense stepped up and held Winston-Salem State scoreless for the remainder of the game. The Blue Bears held on for the 21-13 victory, ending the three-year wait for another win over WSSU and securing back-to-back victories.
This was more than just another win for Livingstone. It was a statement victory that showcased the Blue Bears' resilience, determination and ability to finish when the moment mattered most.
The Blue Bears will look to carry that momentum onto the road when they travel to Shaw University on September 26. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
