SALISBURY, NC— Livingstone College opened the 2026 football season Saturday with a 37-16 loss to Allen University.
The Blue Bears came out strong, taking a 10-7 lead in the first quarter. Jason Zapata connected on a 21-yard field goal before Brandon Edinburgh Jr. connected with Davyn Reid on a 40-yard touchdown pass to give Livingstone the early advantage.
Allen responded with a strong second quarter, scoring 13 points to take a 20-10 lead into halftime. The Yellow Jackets continued to build on their lead in the third quarter, adding 10 points to make it 30-10 heading into the final period.
Livingstone continued to compete in the fourth quarter, with Edinburgh Jr. scoring on a 4-yard rushing touchdown to bring the Blue Bears within 14 points. Allen answered with a late touchdown to secure the 37-16 victory.
Livingstone will look to bounce back this weekend when they travel to face Virginia Union University on Saturday, September 5, with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
