Livingstone College Announces Curtis J. Walker, Sr. as new Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Operations

SALISBURY, N.C. [April 24, 2026] — Livingstone College proudly announces the promotion of Curtis J. Walker, Sr., to Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Operations, ushering in a new era defined by visionary leadership, competitive excellence, and deepened community engagement.

A respected leader with more than three decades of coaching and athletic administration experience, Walker steps into the role following impactful service to the institution as Special Assistant to the President and NIL Specialist, as well as Football Program Consultant. His promotion reflects both institutional confidence in his leadership and a strategic commitment to continuity, culture, and championship-level performance.

"Curtis Walker will lead and direct the entire athletic enterprise of Livingstone College," said President Dr. Anthony J. Davis. " His strategic oversight in areas such as compliance, athletic fundraising and sponsorships, and community and alumni engagement uniquely positions Blue Bear Athletics to elevate to new heights".

Throughout his distinguished career, Walker has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to developing student-athletes both on and off the field. At Livingstone, he has played a critical role in advancing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities, guiding student-athletes in brand development, financial literacy, and strategic partnerships while ensuring compliance and integrity.

Walker's leadership extends far beyond campus. As a former Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at North Charleston High School, he successfully managed 21 athletic programs, strengthened academic accountability, and expanded recruitment pipelines for student-athletes. His tenure as Head Football Coach at Catawba College further cemented his reputation as a builder of winning cultures, highlighted by conference championships, NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) playoff appearances, and national recognition.

A Hall of Fame inductee at both institutional and conference levels, Walker has consistently demonstrated excellence in leadership, strategy, and mentorship. His career includes service on national committees, including the NCAA Regional Football Committee and the American Football Coaches Association, reflecting his influence on the broader landscape of collegiate athletics.

As Vice President of Athletics and Athletic Operations, Walker will focus on three key pillars:

· Building a Winning Culture: Elevating all athletic programs through accountability, preparation, and a championship mindset

· Community Engagement: Strengthening relationships with alumni, donors, and the regional community to create a vibrant and supportive athletic ecosystem

· Visionary Leadership: Leveraging innovation, NIL opportunities, and strategic partnerships to position Livingstone Athletics at the forefront of modern collegiate sports

"I am honored to continue serving Livingstone College in this expanded role," said Walker. "Livingstone College has a rich legacy, and I am committed to building a culture where our student-athletes thrive academically, compete at the highest level, and represent our community with pride. The future of Blue Bear Athletics is bright, and we are just getting started."

Walker's appointment marks a pivotal moment for Livingstone College Athletics—one grounded in tradition, driven by purpose, and focused firmly on the future. Walker and family are members of Southern City Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church in East Spencer, NC.
