Raleigh, N.C.- The Livingstone College softball team came up short in both games of a doubleheader against Shaw University on Saturday afternoon, falling 10–6 in Game 1 and 11–6 in Game 2 in Knightdale, N.C.
Game 1: Shaw 10, Livingstone 6
Livingstone struck first in the opener, scoring three runs in the second inning.
Dayjah Jones delivered a two‑RBI triple to put the Blue Bears on the board before scoring later in the frame, while
Gerielle Dumervil added an RBI single to give Livingstone an early 3–0 lead.
Shaw responded quickly, tying the game in the bottom of the second with a three‑run home run. The hosts added three more runs in the third inning and continued to apply pressure throughout the game, building a 10–4 advantage.
The Blue Bears mounted a late push in the seventh inning, highlighted by an RBI double from
Alyse Stokes and an RBI groundout from
Gabriella Munoz, but the rally was not enough to overcome Shaw's earlier surge.
Khala Porter led Livingstone offensively, going 3‑for‑3 with two runs scored, while Natayah Abdul‑Hakim and Jones each recorded extra‑base hits.
Lanise Pates took the loss, with Munoz providing relief in the circle.
Game 2: Shaw 11, Livingstone 6
Livingstone once again found early momentum in Game 2, plating three runs in the third inning.
Rylee Watson doubled home a run, while capitalizing on Shaw miscues to take a 3–1 lead.
After Shaw took control in the fourth inning with a five‑run outburst, Livingstone responded in the sixth.
Valeria Rolon tripled to drive in a run, followed by back‑to‑back RBI triples from
Aniyah Jones and an RBI reach by
Dayjah Jones to cut the deficit to one.
Shaw answered immediately in the bottom of the sixth with four runs to pull away late and secure the sweep.
Livingstone tallied 12 hits in the nightcap, led by Porter's 3‑for‑4 outing. Abdul‑Hakim added two hits, while Rolon and
Aniyah Jones each contributed an RBI triple.
Alyse Stokes was charged with the loss, with
Emma Cardenas and
Gabriella Munoz appearing in relief.
