Salisbury, NC- The Lady Blue Bears faced a tough outing on Sunday afternoon falling in both games of their road doubleheader against Virginia Union at the Jaycee Optimist Sports Complex.
Game 1: Virginia Union 20, Livingstone 1
Virginia Union struck early and often, putting up runs in each of the first four innings on their way to a 20–1 victory. The Panthers' offense exploded with 20 hits, highlighted by multi‑extra‑base performances from several hitters.
Madison Hayes powered VUU with 3 hits and 7 RBIs, including a three‑run home run in the third. Jailyn Myrick added a triple, a double, and 2 RBIs, while Elisia Gonzalez‑Pettis collected two doubles, two RBIs, and three runs scored.
Livingstone broke through in the third inning when
Rylee Watson scored on a wild pitch, but the Panthers' early surge had already created too much separation. Livingstone finished with two hits in the game.
Game 2: Virginia Union 13, Livingstone 4
The Lady Blue Bears responded with a much stronger start in Game 2, putting together a four‑run first inning to take an early 4–1 lead.
Tykera Lundy scored on a single by
Lanise Pates, and
Gerielle Hoke stole home to energize the offense. A defensive miscue by the Panthers allowed
Makaylah Sutton and
Lanise Pates to score, giving Livingstone its biggest inning of the afternoon.
However, Virginia Union answered immediately with a six‑run second inning and continued adding to the lead throughout the game, ultimately winning 13–4.
Gonzalez‑Pettis once again paced the Panthers, going 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs, while Myrick and Hayes each tallied multiple hits. Shyra Jones added a two‑run homer in the second, helping shift momentum permanently to VUU.
Livingstone produced five hits in the game, but the Panthers' offense proved too consistent down the stretch.
The Lady Blue Bears are back in action on Tuesday, March 17, as they travel to Allen University for a doubleheader scheduled for 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.
