Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College women's basketball battled hard but came up short against Virginia State, falling 66–42 in Thursday's CIAA matchup at William Trent Gymnasium. Despite the loss, the Blue Bears showed resilience, especially in the third quarter, and continued to demonstrate growth as conference play heats up.
Virginia State (9-3, 3-1 CIAA) jumped out to an early lead, but Livingstone (2-11, 1-3 CIAA) responded after halftime with its best offensive stretch, scoring 15 points in the third quarter. The Blue Bears also held their own on the glass, pulling down 51 rebounds, including 18 offensive boards that created second-chance opportunities.
Jasiyah Crawford led the way with 14 points and 8 rebounds, while
Breasia Coit added 7 points and 9 boards.
Boston Bates provided a spark off the bench with 9 points and 5 rebounds.
Sydney Roberts paced the Trojans with 14 points, and Kendahl Spearman chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds.
The Blue Bears will look to build on their effort when they return to action on Saturday, January 10, hosting another CIAA doubleheader against Bluefield State. The women's game tips off at 2:00 PM, followed by the men at 4:00 PM inside William Trent Gymnasium.
