Salisbury, NC- The Livingstone College women's basketball team battled hard but came up short in an overtime thriller against Bluefield State, falling 97-92.
After trailing 41-32 at halftime, the Lady Blue Bears surged in the third quarter with a 28-point effort to take a brief lead. The game featured seven ties and 11 lead changes, with both teams trading baskets down the stretch.
Livingstone forced overtime after a strong fourth quarter, but Bluefield State capitalized in the extra period, shooting 75% from the field and converting six free throws to seal the win.
Breasia Coit posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
Nielle Reaves added 17 points and a team-high 14 boards.
Boston Bates came off the bench to score 16 points, while
Jamyrah Cherry chipped in 11.
Livingstone dominated the glass with 56 rebounds and scored 44 points in the paint, but 31 turnovers proved costly.
The Lady Blue Bears will be back at home on Monday, January 12, hosting another CIAA doubleheader against Elizabeth City State. The women tip off at 5:30 PM, followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM.
