Raleigh, NC- — Despite a strong push in the middle quarters, Livingstone College women's basketball came up short on the road Thursday evening, falling 66–58 to Shaw University inside Spaulding Gym.
After a slow offensive start in the first quarter, the Blue Bears regrouped and found better rhythm in the second and third, outscoring the Bears 39–27 during that stretch. Livingstone trailed 29–25 at halftime before briefly taking momentum, fueled by improved shooting and strong rebounding.
Breasia Coit delivered a standout performance, recording a 14 point, 12 rebound double-double while playing all but four minutes.
Nielle Reaves added 13 points, including two three-pointers, and contributed seven rebounds.
Boston Bates followed with 10 points and six boards, giving the Blue Bears a balanced scoring effort.
The Blue Bears outrebounded Shaw 39–37 and scored 32 points in the paint, but Shaw capitalized on turnovers, converting 29 points off Livingstone's giveaways. The Bears dominated the fourth quarter with a 28 point surge, pulling away late to secure the home win.
Shaw was led by Leasia Matthews and Mikyah Finley, who each scored 16 points, while Ashara Spruill added 15.
The Lady Blue Bears hit the road again on February 7, traveling to Johnson C. Smith University for a CIAA doubleheader at Brayboy Gym. Women tip off at 5:30 PM, followed by the men at 7:30 PM.
