Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Lady Blue Bears Battle but Fall to Augusta on the Road, 71–58

Augusta, GA – Despite a competitive showing through three quarters, the Livingstone College women's basketball team was unable to withstand a late surge from Augusta University, falling 71–58 on the road Friday evening inside George A. Christenberry Fieldhouse.

The matchup was tightly contested for most of the night, featuring 20 lead changes and seven ties, as both teams traded momentum in a physical, high‑energy contest. Livingstone came out strong, shooting 50 percent in the opening quarter and taking a narrow 19–18 lead behind early production from Breasia Coit and sharpshooter Jasiyah Crawford.

However, Augusta responded in the second quarter, capitalizing on improved defensive pressure and timely baskets to edge ahead 37–31 at halftime. Livingstone refused to back down, regrouping out of the break with an 18–12 third‑quarter advantage, highlighted by steady play from senior guard Nielle Reaves and a renewed focus on attacking the boards.

With just one quarter remaining, the Blue Bears trailed by only a single possession — but Augusta's depth proved the deciding factor. The Jaguars outscored Livingstone 22–9 in the fourth quarter, using efficient shooting and key bench contributions to pull away for the win. Augusta finished with 27 bench points, compared to just seven for the Blue Bears.

Breasia Coit led Livingstone with a strong double‑double performance, posting 16 points and 11 rebounds while battling inside all evening. Crawford added 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, and Reaves contributed 12 points and seven boards. The Blue Bears dominated the offensive glass, collecting 19 offensive rebounds and converting them into 22 second‑chance points — their highest such total in several games.

Augusta countered with a balanced scoring effort, led by Amari Jackson's 12 points and three steals, as well as 11 points each from Quinasia Abercrombie and Sierra Burns. The Jaguars shot an efficient 45 percent from the field and 80 percent from the free‑throw line, helping them maintain their advantage in the closing minutes.

Livingstone now looks to bounce back as they continue their road swing. The Blue Bears will travel to Orangeburg, SC, to take on Claflin University on Saturday at 2 p.m., with the men's team set to follow at 4 p.m.
