Orangeburg, SC — The Livingstone College women's basketball team picked up a hard-fought CIAA road victory on Saturday afternoon, edging Claflin University 56–50 inside Tullis Arena.
Livingstone set the tone early, jumping out to a strong first quarter behind efficient shooting and defensive pressure, holding Claflin to just five points in the opening period. Despite a second-quarter surge by the Panthers that tightened the game at halftime, the Blue Bears responded with a key third-quarter push to regain momentum.
Nielle Reaves led Livingstone with a game-high 17 points, adding five assists, four steals, and two blocks in an all-around performance.
Breasia Coit anchored the paint with 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, while
Boston Bates posted a double-double of her own with 10 points and 12 boards.
Ny'Asia Green chipped in eight points and five assists as Livingstone controlled the tempo down the stretch.
The Blue Bears sealed the win at the free-throw line late, converting six fourth-quarter free throws while limiting Claflin to just one field goal over the final minutes. Livingstone finished with a 42–42 rebounding effort and forced 16 Claflin turnovers in the contest.
The Blue Bears return home on Wednesday, January 21, to host Fayetteville State University in a CIAA doubleheader at home. The women's game is set for 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's contest at 7:30 p.m.
