Charleston, WV – Livingstone College fell to the University of Charleston in their season opener Thursday night, 39-10.
Charleston wasted no time getting on the board. Quarterback Ean Hamric connected with Zachariah Williams for a 10-yard touchdown to cap a 78-yard drive, then followed up with a 57-yard strike to Yves Bosmans, giving the Golden Eagles a quick 14-0 lead. Livingstone responded with a 43-yard field goal from
Jason Zapata, but those would be their only points of the first half.
The second quarter saw Charleston continue to dominate. Hamric led a 99-yard drive, finishing with a 25-yard touchdown pass to Marquan Herron. Bosmans added his second score of the night on a 19-yard reception, extending the lead to 27-3 at halftime.
Livingstone showed signs of life in the third quarter with a 63-yard touchdown run by
Maliq Staten. However, Charleston answered swiftly as Williams broke free for a 39-yard rushing touchdown.
Bosmans capped off his night in the fourth quarter with his third touchdown reception—a 26-yarder from Hamric—sealing the 39-10 victory for Charleston.
The Blue Bears will look to bounce back next week when they travel to Columbia, SC, to face Allen University on September 6 at 6 p.m.
