Fayetteville, N.C.-The Lady Blue Bears faced a tough opponent this afternoon, dropping both games in a doubleheader to Fayetteville State. The first game ended with a 7-3 defeat, followed by a 6-2 loss in the second game.
Game 1: Fayetteville State 7, Livingstone 3
In the top of the first, Fayetteville State jumped on the board first when Treja Patterson fouled out to right field, bringing in A'Leah Wilson to score and making it 1-0. Livingstone responded in the second inning.
Lanise Pates singled to right center, driving in
Makaylah Sutton who scored an unearned run to tie the game to 1-1.
Fayetteville State took the lead again in the third inning. Chynna Patrick laid down a bunt single, bringing home Cheyenne Payne and making it 2-1 in favor of the Broncos.
Livingstone wasn't about to back down. In the fifth inning,
Cianna Bullock reached base on an error by the first baseman, which allowed
Sinai Cisneros to score, tying the game again at 2-2. However, Fayetteville State responded with a big rally in the same inning. A series of errors and timely hits gave them five runs in the fifth inning. A'Leah Wilson reached on an error by the second baseman, scoring Cheynne Payne. Then, Madison Heath blasted a two-run homer up the middle, scoring Wilson and pushing the lead to 5-2.
The inning wasn't done there. Kevana Deberry reached on an error by the first baseman, bringing home two more runs—Morgan Jackson and Sydney Jackson. The Broncos were up 7-2.
In the seventh inning, Livingstone added one more run when
Cianna Bullock flied out to left field, scoring
Jailyn Latour. However, it wasn't enough, as Fayetteville State held on for a 7-3 victory.
Game 2: Fayetteville State 6, Livingstone 2
The game began with an early Livingstone lead.
Dusti Abshire stole third base and scored on the throw, giving the home team a 1-0 advantage in the third inning.
Fayetteville State responded quickly, tying the game in the top of the third. Tamarah Lowery singled to left center, driving in Vangilees Chambers to make it 1-1. Then, Madison Heath walked with the bases loaded, pushing in Treja Patterson to give Fayetteville State their first lead of the game, 2-1.
In the fourth, the Broncos extended their lead. Aniya Caldwell doubled to left field, scoring Sydney Jackson to make it 3-1.
The fifth inning was another tough one for Livingstone. Madison Heath doubled to left field, bringing in Treja Patterson to push the score to 4-1. Shortly after, Morgan Jackson reached base on an error by the second baseman, scoring Heath for a 5-1 lead.
Fayetteville State added one more insurance run in the sixth inning when Morgan Heath singled to drive in Cheyenne Payne, making it 6-1.
Livingstone did their best to mount a comeback in the seventh.
Dusti Abshire reached base on an error by the first baseman, and
Trine Bracey scored an unearned run, but the rally fell short as Fayetteville State finished off the game with a 6-2 victory.
The Lady Blue Bears will continue their road series as they travel to Carolina University for a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 8. The first game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., followed by the second game at 4 p.m.
