Charlotte, NC- In a game that lived up to the legacy of the historic Commemorative Classic, Livingstone College battled fiercely but ultimately fell to Johnson C. Smith University, 26–21, in a rivalry showdown that capped off the 2025 football season.
The Golden Bulls opened the scoring with a methodical 8-play drive, ending in an 8-yard touchdown run by Bobby Smith. But Livingstone responded instantly—

Davyn Reid, tying the game at 7–7 just 13 seconds later.
Johnson C. Smith regained control in the second quarter with a 40-yard field goal from Lukasz Smolen, followed by a defensive touchdown on a pick-six by Rontay Dunbar. Livingstone clawed back with another explosive play, a 65-yard touchdown pass from Alexander to Reid, narrowing the gap to 17–14. However, a last-second 48-yard field goal by Smolen sent JCSU into halftime with a 20–14 lead.
Momentum shifted early in the third quarter when
Eshawn Carter intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, giving Livingstone a 21–20 lead. But with under five minutes left in the fourth, JCSU's Kelvin Durham connected with Deandre Proctor for a 24-yard touchdown, sealing the win for the Golden Bulls.
Despite the loss, the Blue Bears showcased resilience and big play ability, especially from standout receiver
Davyn Reid, who recorded two long touchdown receptions. The defense also made its mark with a pick-six, keeping the game competitive until the final whistle.
With the defeat, Livingstone concludes the 2025 season with a 5–5 overall record and 3–4 CIAA record. While the season had its ups and downs, the Blue Bears showed flashes of brilliance and promise. As they turn the page to 2026, the team is determined to build on this foundation and make a strong comeback in the CIAA.
