Salisbury, NC- In the season opener for Livingstone, the team faced a tough challenge against the University of Charleston (WV), falling 38-7.
The game began with the Golden Eagles quickly establishing dominance. Marquan Herron made his presence known early, catching a 28-yard touchdown pass from Javonte Howard just 9 minutes into the first quarter. Herron struck again with another 28-yard touchdown reception later in the same quarter, giving UCWV a 14-0 lead.
In the second quarter, Golden Eagles extended their lead with a 37-yard field goal from Levi Paxton, making the score 17-0.
The third quarter saw the Golden Eagles continue to pile on the points. Chavon Wright ran in a 2-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 24-0. The fourth quarter brought more of the same, as Wright scored again with a 5-yard run. Jadus Davis added a final touchdown for UCWV with a 1-yard run, making it 38-0 with just over 3 minutes remaining.
The Blue Bears managed to avoid a shutout when
Chris Washington caught a 54-yard touchdown pass from
Zorian Wallace.
Jason Zapata added the extra point, bringing the final score to 38-7.
