SALISBURY, N.C. -
Matthew Blackmon had one of the best season for both indoor and outdoor track in recent Blue Bear history. He broke numerous records and set multiple PR's in his events all season, and his strong performance this season not only helped him claim a spot on the Atlantic All-Region list for the 110m hurdles, but with his performance at the Lenoir-Rhyne last chance meet, he earned himself a spot as a national qualifier.
"I'm very excited about this opportunity for Matthew and for Livingstone College" said head coach Justin Davis. "I believe this pushes us in the right direction for Livingstone Track & Field and I look forward to seeing what we will be able to do on the National Level."
Blackmon ran a 13.99 in the event which ended up being his national qualifying time. With the hurdler qualifying for the NCAA championships for the first time in his young career, he becomes the first hurdler to accomplish such a feat since 2004.
This year's championship will take place in Emporia, Kansas at Emporia State University. Prelims for Blackmon's event will take place on Friday, May 24 at 7:35 P.M. EST. If he qualifies for the finals, then he will be competing on Saturday, May 25 at 3:45 P.M. EST.
