Bluefield, W.V.- The Lady Blues opened their season with a tough 72-75 loss to Mansfield University in a hard-fought game at the Bluefield Challenge.
Morgan Kelson led the Lady Blues with a game-high 26 points and 12 rebounds. She was a standout performer, shooting 9-of-18 from the field and 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. In addition to her scoring, Kelson also contributed 3 assists and 4 steals.
Thalia Carter added 10 points and 7 rebounds, and
Bria Griffith also chipped in 10 points, showing an all-around effort to keep the game close.
Jasiyah Crawford contributed 8 points and 4 rebounds, while
Maya Gray had 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Despite the team's collective effort, the Lady Blues struggled with shooting efficiency, finishing 28-of-76 (36.8%) from the field and 2-of-13 from three-point range. Free throws kept them in the game, as they shot 14-of-23 (60.9%) from the line, but it wasn't enough to overcome Mansfield's late-game execution.
The Lady Blues will look to bounce back on Sunday as they take on Clarion University at 4 p.m.
