Carrington Hayward Finishes with The Highest Tournament Average at The 2023 CIAA Bowling Championship

SALEM, Virginia – Livingstone College women's bowling team wrapped up their season at the 2023 CIAA Bowling Championship. The three-day event (Mar. 25-26) was highlighted by Carrington Hayward finishing with the highest tournament average of 191.0. 

 Livingstone placed seventh overall after going 1-6 in the two days.

Saturday (Mar. 25), The Blue Bears battled with Bowie State in all seven games. Livingstone took game one 137-120. The Bulldogs answered and took the next two games two 156-88, 156-110. 

The Blue Bears showed resilience and took the next two games 115-113 and 140-136 to send it to game seven. The defending champs went on take the match 146-108. 

The Blue Bears would drop down to the loser's bracket and face Virginia Union in the next round. 

Livingstone started day two with a win over Virginia Union University (510-411). The Blue Bears went on to face Johnson C. Smith in round three.  

The Blue Bears took game one 119-108. The Golden Bulls answered in game two 161-119. Livingstone then made it a 2-1 series in game three 115-101. The Golden Bulls would go on to win the final three games 129-96, 149-111, and 140-120. 

The Broncos of Fayetteville State University claimed the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Bowling championship with a 4-0 sweep over Bowie State University at AMF Lee-Hi Lanes in Salem, VA.

ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM

After bowling a great championship weekend, five deserving bowlers were named to the 2023 CIAA All-Tournament Team. 

For her efforts in helping her team secure the team title, Paige Rockwell of Fayetteville State was also named Food Lion Women's Bowling Tournament MVP in addition to receiving all-tournament honors.
