ELIZABETH CITY, North Carolina – The Livingstone College Softball team (1-8) fell to Virginia Union University and Shaw University on day two of the CIAA softball Round-up Friday afternoon.
vs. Virginia Union:
The Blue Bears struck first with an unearned run by Jada Starr-Wilson. The Panthers recorded two home runs, two RBI's, and three unearned runs in the bottom of the third inning.
Madalyn Payne (0-3) picked up the loss after striking out four batters and allowing five hits and eight runs in 2.2 innings pitched. Stephanie Barksdale released Payne at the mound. Barksdale struck out one, allowing eight hits and eight runs in 1.1 innings pitched.
The Blue Bears scored their final run when Cameron Jordan-Ruffin hit a SAC fly to score Stephanie Barksdale in the top of the fourth inning.
vs. Shaw University:
The Bears took an early 7-0 lead in the first inning. The Blue Bears answered with two unearned runs and Khala Porter ran in Jada Wilson.
In the bottom of the third Khala Porter reached on a fielder's choice and Jada Wilson scored. Khala Porter scored later in the inning, unearned.
Stephanie Barksdale went 1-for-3 from the plate, including a home run. Cameron Jordan-Ruffin went 1-for-3 from the dish, including a run. Khlala Porter went 1-for3 from the plate, including a run.
Khala Porter (0-1) picked up the loss allowing 17 hits and 22 runs in 5.0 innings pitched.
Late in the fifth, the Blue Bears tried to rally when Ashleigh Clarke singled RBI up through the right side.
