ELIZABETH CITY, North Carolina – The Livingstone College Softball team (1-6) fell to Virginia State University and Lincoln University on day one of the CIAA softball Round-up Thursday afternoon.
vs. Virginia State:
The Trojans struck early when Alani Horton stole second, and Alaijah Pratt scored.
In the bottom of the third, the Trojans extended their lead 5-0 with three unearned runs.
Ashleigh Clarke (0-1) picked up the loss after striking out three batters and allowing ten hits and eight runs in 4.2 innings pitched.
The Trojans scored their last two in the bottom of the fifth inning to win the game 8-0.
Shardaye Yharbrough went 1-for-2 at the plate. While Jada Starr-Wilson went 1-for-3.
vs. Lincoln University:
The Lions took an early 7-0 lead in the first five innings. Stephanie Barksdale sent one to left field, recording the first home run for the Blue Bears this year. Khala Porter and Cameron Jordan-Ruffin scored the last two for the Blue Bears in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Stephanie Barksdale went 1-for-3 from the plate, including a home run. Cameron Jordan-Ruffin went 1-for-3 from the dish, including a run. Khlala Porter went 1-for3 from the plate, including a run.
Madalyn Payne (0-3) picked up the loss allowing six hits and six runs in 4.0 innings pitched. Stephanie Barksdale released her at the mound, allowing three hits and three runs in 3.0 innings pitched.
