Softball Falls on The Road to Salem College

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – The Livingstone College Softball team (1-4) fell to Salem College (2-8) in a doubleheader Monday afternoon.

Game One:

The Blue Bears struck first when Madalyn Payne singled to shortstop and ran in Jada Starr-Wilson. Shelby LaPoint answered for Salem College with a home run, bringing in all three bases. 

Early in the fourth inning Cameran Jordan-Ruffin tied the game up at five by doubling down the right-field line and scoring on an error. Jordan-Ruffin also ran in Aubree Reyes and Stephanie Barksdale

Madalyn Payne (0-2) picked up the loss after striking out five batters and allowing nine hits and nine runs in 4.0 innings pitched. 

The Spirits ran in three batters in the fourth inning to extend their lead to 9-5. The Blue Bears were scoreless in the fifth inning, while the Spirits scored their final three in the bottom of the fifth.  

Game Two:

The Spirits took an early 10-0 lead in the first two innings. Jada Starr-Wilson singled to shortstop bringing in Stephanie Barksdale. Aubree Reyes followed with a singling to shortstop to run in Jada Starr-Wilson

Stephanie Barksdale went 1-for-3 from the plate, including a run. Aubree Reyes went 1-for-2 from the dish, including an RBI. 

Stephanie Barksdale (0-2) picked up the loss allowing five hits and seven runs in 1.0 innings pitched. Ashleigh Clark released her at the mound, allowing two hits and four runs in 1.0 innings pitched. Khala Porter finished off the game by allowing four runs, and five hits in 2.0 innings pitched.

The Blue Bears will travel to Elizabeth City, North Carolina for the CIAA Roundup.
