SALISBURY – The Livingstone Women's Basketball team dropped a non-conference game to Salem University Monday evening in New Trent Gym, 70-59.
The Blue Bears drop to (9-15,3-9), and The Tigers improve to (9-16,0-0).
Alyssa Boyce led the Blue Bears with 12 points. Andresia Alexander followed with 10 points.
The Tigers Daniela Quesada led with 19 points. Liliani Krause followed with 14 points. Anna Machykova and Elena Pericic finished with 10 points.
Livingstone shot 26.9% from the field (18-67) and 80.0% from the free-throw line (16-20).
The Blue Bears return to action Thursday, February 9, hosting Fayetteville State University.
The Blue Bears scored the first two off a turnover by Lilani Krause. The Tigers took a seven-point lead at the three-minute mark with a jumper by Arambarri Fernandez, 11-4. Varvara Papakonstantinou answered with a three-pointer on the other end.
Thalia Carter rebounded a missed shot and put it back in to cut the Tigers' lead to two with 2:19 left in the first quarter, 11-9.
Emerson Wells put the Tigers back up by seven with :12 left in the first quarter, 17-10. Ny'Asia Green answered at the other end with a three of her own to put the Blue Bears down by four at the end of the first quarter, 17-13.
Alyssa Boyce tied it up at 22 with 4:12 left in the second quarter. Two good free throws by Sha'Terra Ferrell gave the Blue Bears the lead with 1:09 left in the second quarter, 26-24. The Tigers tied it up at 27 with :14 left before halftime. Jamiah Lane hit a last-minute jumper to give the Blue Bears a two-point lead at halftime, 29-27.
The Tigers came out of halftime and tied it up at 29 with a jumper by Anna Machykova. The Blue Bears and the Tigers traded leads for the entire third quarter.
Two good free throws by Jardyn Alexander tied the game up at 47 to end the third quarter. Both teams had five leads each in the third quarter. Both teams tied the game up four times as well.
Jamiah Lane tied the game up at 53 by making one out of two free throws, with 5:02 remaining. Emerson Wells hit a three on the other end to give the Tigers back the lead, 56-53.
Alexis Lake completed a layup to put the Blue Bears within one, 56-55. The Tigers completed a five-point play to put them up by 11 with 1:17 left in the game, 65-55. The Blue Bears could not recover from the point deficit.
The Blue Bears ended the night with 15 second chance points versus the Tigers' four.
Livingstone outrebounded Salem 43-42.
