RALEIGH, North Carolina – The Livingstone Women's Basketball team took down St. Augustine's University for the second time this season, Wednesday evening in Emery Gymnasium, 75-69.
The Blue Bears improve to (11-16,5-10), and The Falcons drop to (8-15,4-11).
Thaila Carter led the Blue Bears with a season-high of 16 points. Bria Griffith followed with 14 points and six rebounds. Andresia Alexander finished with 13 points and six rebounds. Alyssa Boyce finished with 10 points.
The Falcons Taniyah Greene and Lauren Banks led with 17 points. Ariyanna Brown followed with 12 points.
Livingstone shot 50.9% from the field (27-53) and 71.4% from the free-throw line (15-21).
The Blue Bears return to action Saturday, February 18, as they travel to Winston-Salem State University. First Tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
The Blue Bears took an early 19-14 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Blue Bears and the Falcons then played an even second quarter making the halftime score 35-34 in favor of St. Augustine's.
The Falcons started the third quarter by adding to their lead with two good free throws by Bre'cha Byrd. Alyssa Boyce hit a three at the other end to quickly tied it up at 37. The Falcons were outscored in the third quarter 20-13, allowing Blue Bears to take the lead by the end of the third quarter, 54-48.
The Blue Bears took an 11-point lead with 9:01 left in the fourth quarter. A three-pointer by Lauren Banks put the Blue Bears down 62-61 with 4:52 left in the fourth quarter. Andresia Alexander secured the win for the Blue Bears with two good free throws, with :04 remaining.
The Blue Bears ended the night with 26 bench points versus the Falcons 21. The Blue Bears got outworked in the paint with 24 points in the paint versus the Falcons 30.
Sy. Augustine's outrebounded Livingstone 26-25.
