Women's Basketball Falls to Johnson C. Smith

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina –  The Livingstone Women's Basketball team fell to Johnson C. Smith University Saturday afternoon in Brayboy Gymnasium, 54-50. 

The Blue Bears drop to (6-12,2-7), and The Golden Bulls improve to (7-10,3-5). 

Andresia Alexander led the Blue Bears with 14 points shooting 4-9. 

The Golden Bulls Le'Zarea Bowens led with 15 points. Followed by India Howard with 11 points and eight rebounds.

Livingstone shot 34.0% from the field (16-47) and 55.0% from the free-throw line (11-20).

The Blue Bears return to action Tuesday, January 24 for a non-conference match-up, hosting Morris College. The first tip is set for 5:30 p.m. ET. 

Following two made free throws by Imani Elliot, the Broncos took a six-point lead with 1:37 left in the first quarter, 16-10. 

Livingstone quickly went on a 4-0 run in the first two minutes of the game, Jamiah lane hit a jumper followed by a layup by Alexis Lake. The Golden Bull tied it up at the seven-minute mark with a jumper by India Howard. The last two minutes of the first quarter were scoreless for both teams. The Blue Bears held a two-point lead at the end of the first quarter, 10-8.

Alexis Daley-Ellis tied it up for the Golden Bulls to start the second quarter, 10-10. The Blue Bears trailed by five with 5:55 left, only scoring two points, 17-12. Andresia Alexander hit two threes back to back to give the Blue Bears the lead, 18-17. India Howard hit a last-minute layup right before halftime to tie it up, 23-23.

The Golden Bulls took a ten-point lead at the two-minute mark in the third quarter, 33-23. The Blue Bears were scoreless until Bria Griffith made one of two free throws with :24 left in the third quarter. 

The Blue Bears got back in the game in the fourth quarter. Alyssa Boyce hit a three from the corner to tie it up with 5:25 left in the game. 

After being tied again, Sha'Terra Ferrell completed an old fashion three. Putting the Blue Bears up 47-44. Sha'Terra Ferrell fouled, sending Le;Zarea Bowen to the line for two. Bowen made both free throws to give the Golden Bulls a five-point lead, 52-47. With .05 left, Jamiah Lane hit a three from the top of the key to cut the Golden Bulls' lead to two, 52-50. 

Alyssa Boyce fouled sending Shaniya Jones to the line for two. Jones made both free throws, scoring the last two points in the game. 

The Golden Bulls had 12 points off the Blue Bears' 25 turnovers. The Blue Bears had 17 bench points versus the Golden Bulls 11.

Livingstone outrebounded Johnson C. Smith 40-35.
